Cumbia Cruzada
Cumbia Cruzada is a dance that originated in the southern region of the Province of Santa Fe, more specifically Rosario and its surrounding areas. A port city with similar migratory characteristics to Buenos Aires, Rosario also has a deep-rooted tango tradition. In the 1960s, tango suffered stigmatization within the music and cultural industries. As doors closed for tango, others opened for rock, tropical music, merengue, salsa, and cumbia. Those who frequented milongas discovered new musical genres, blending the dance with the traditional steps they knew. This fusion gave birth to a popular dance, a blend of tango and cumbia.
Matías (a Rosario native) and Nicole - apart from tango, teach Cumbia Cruzada. Using the same tango embrace as well as many of the same steps and secuences, it’s a fun and engaging way to explore connection and musicality.
